A Father's Heartfelt Thanks: How Samaritans Saved My Daughter

“But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds… and took care of him.” (Luke 10:33-34)

In the Bible, we read about the Good Samaritan who stopped to help a stranger when others walked away. On April 2nd, 2026, I saw this story happen in real life. When my daughter was lying injured on a road in Bengaluru and I was thousands of miles away, the “Samaritans of Mandya” became the hands of God. They didn't know us, but they stopped everything to save her.

AN UNEXPECTED CRISIS

I am Joby K. A., and my daughter, San Maria Joby, is an engineering student at Christ University, Kengeri. On the evening of Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2026, our world turned upside down. San Maria met with a very serious road accident while crossing the road. She was hit by a car and suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures in her right leg and a broken left hip.

At that time, I was working in Madhya Pradesh. Even though her friends called me immediately, I was thousands of kilometers away and couldn't reach Bengaluru anytime soon. I felt totally lost and didn't know what to do.

HELP JUST A CLICK AWAY

In my panic, I called Mr. Santhosh Joseph, her catechism teacher at St. Thomas Forane Church, Dharmaram. He told me, “Don't worry, help is on the way.” To be honest, I found it hard to believe at first, but what happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

Mr. Santhosh created a help request with the accident details on Samaritans of Mandya, an emergency mobile app by the Mandya Diocese. Within minutes, I got a call from Mr. Jisso Jose, who promised me that everything would be taken care of.

COORDINATION AND CARE

The response was lightning-fast:

• Volunteers Arrive: Mr. Pradeep from St. Vincent Parish, Kengeri reached R.R. Medical College (where she was first taken) almost immediately. Mr. Jisso arrived just 10 minutes later. A couple of San Maria's friends and family also arrived by then to help.

• Expert Advice: After seeing the X-rays, Mr. Jisso suggested moving her to a better hospital for surgery. He kept calling me with regular updates so I wouldn't worry.

• The Shift: They coordinated with Mr. Justin Antony, a Samaritan volunteer from Swargarani Parish, RR Nagar and Nursing Superintendent at BGS Fortis Hospital. He personally arranged an ambulance and doctors to pick up San Maria and bring her to BGS, where everything was ready for her arrival.

TRUE HUMANITY IN ACTION

When I finally reached the hospital at 11:30 a.m. the next day, I was amazed. Mr. Jisso and Mr. Justin had organized everything perfectly under the guidance of Fr. Jomon Kolenchery CMI, Director of the Samaritan Movement.

The surgery was successful, and we were discharged after three days. We are currently staying in Kengeri for her physiotherapy. God's abundant mercy through Samaritan volunteers keeps flowing on us even now:

• Jaya Abraham and Johnson K. J from Swargarani Parish, RR Nagar arranged a walker.

• Mathew Joseph and Jomy John from Swargarani Parish provided a pedal fan for us to use.

• Fr. Jiby Edappallikkunnel CMI (Director, Christ University, Kengeri Campus) provides an ambulance every time we need to go for a check-up.

A FINAL WORD OF GRATITUDE

The selfless service of Fr. Jomon, Mr. Jisso, Mr. Justin, and the entire Samaritan team is beyond words. Many of them sacrificed their time of Maundy Thursday prayer with their families to help our moment of great distress. I saw true humanity. They didn't know me and never heard of me, yet they worked tirelessly to save my child.

I am deeply grateful to everyone. I truly encourage everyone to download the Samaritans of Mandya app and join this noble cause. Your joining can provide life-saving help to someone else in a crisis.
